According to reports, since April, 2021, residents in Kalamazoo, Michigan, will be able to recycle several types of foam waste, including EPS at four drop-off events this year. The recycled EPS will be further processed by the EPS recycling system for reuse.

It is well known that many residential curbside recycling programs (including the city of Kalamazoo) are not open to accept EPS foam recycling, which is commonly used for things like packaging liners, foam containers and disposable coffee cups.

The Environmental Commission of Kalamazoo City is trying to close the gap by piloting a one-year program to expand the recycling of EPS foam. According to a Facebook event hosted by the city of Kalamazoo by 2021, residents will be able to bring back recycled materials on any of four drop-off days throughout the year.

Residents can bring acceptable materials to 251 Mills St from 10am to 1pm. Mayor’s Riverside Park. The scheduled dates are April 24, July 31, October 30 and January 29.
