Foam recycling is now available in Collier with the foam densifier invested

According to reports, Collier County will provide foam #6 (Styrofoam) recycling at the North Collier Recycling Center from October 1, 2020.

As a leading county in Florida, Collier has been dedicated to improving the quality of life of its residents and doing good community work. This important initiative will keep foam waste out of landfills and help protect the environment.

The Foam Recycling Alliance offered a grant of $50,000 to enable the Collier County Foam Recycling Pilot Program to be realized. The grant is used to purchase a foam densifier that to recycle the foam waste collected in this program. The machine compresses the foam into blocks and then sells it to suppliers for collection and reuse.

From Oct. 1, Collier County residents can drop off foam waste for free at the North Collier Recycling Center on 9950 Goodlette Frank Road. The center is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Now, most foam products with the number 6 can be recycled, including clean takeout containers, foam packaging boxes and egg cartons. Packaged peanuts cannot be recycled and should not be placed in roadside recycling bins with yellow tops.

“We are very pleased to be able to provide collier County residents and businesses with free foam recycling at the North Collier Recycling Centre from 1 October.” said Hodgson.

In fact, this project is of great significance to Collier County. Foam recycling can not only reduce the environmental pollution caused by foam incineration and landfill, but can also drive surrounding enterprises to carry out foam recycling business. This is a profitable business activity. For example, the project can promote employment, and more people will participate in foam recycling, thereby increasing the local resident foam recycling awareness. In addition, the recycled foam can be sold for reproduction, so that resources can be reused, and also promote the development of the foam production industry.
