The community foam recycling program after holiday season in Washington

Most holiday gifts are wrapped in Styrofoam (foam #6). Where does it go after the holiday season? In fact, it ends up in landfills.

“Typically, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we see a 25% increase in the amount of garbage per household or an increase of about 1,000 pounds,” said Jeremy Walters, the sustainability ambassador of the Republic Service. “However, the good news is that about 80% of it can actually be reused or recycled, including foam waste.”

Foam waste is difficult to decompose, and landfill is not an appropriate way of waste management, professional foam recycling machine to dispose it. Therefore, Centerville Washington Park District partnered with Sustainable Centerville and Ecological Development to help the community recycle foam waste, turning waste into treasure and achieving sustainable development of resources.

On Jan. 2, people can drop foam waste in the driveway of the Centerville Washington Park District on Central Street (Northville).

After the foam waste is collected in the community, it needs to be further compressed to reduce the volume, so as to be used as the raw material for the production of new foam products. GREENMAX offers high quality foam densifier to melt the foam waste at a ratio of 90:1, the maximum material capacity can reach 300kg/h, very efficient.

After the melting process by a foam densifier, the loose foam waste will be turned into dense foam ingots, further produced as PS pellets for the production of new products. Now, in the market, photo frames, picture frames, thermal insulation boards, surfboards are all made of recycled foam material.

The community foam recycling program not only raises the foam recycling awareness of residents, but also increases foam recycling rates.
