EPS and XPS plastic are being recycled effectively – recycling targets will be achieved soon with the foam compactor

Ten organizations and players in the sector have united around Créa-Styr. This roadmap aims to develop a French recycling sector for expanded polystyrene (PSE) and extruded polystyrene (XPS) packaging, collected in France by 2025.There are ten actors, brought together around the creation of a EPS and XPS recycling sector: the Union of French wholesalers, Eumeps, Elipso, Michelin, Célène, Polyvia, the National Network of Polystyrene Recyclers ( RNRP), Valorplast, Twiice and PlasticsEurope. To defend this project, the Créa-Styr signatories first recall the advantages of PSE and fragile products.Another advantage of styrenic packaging: they are made up of 95% air, which reduces CO2 emissions linked to their transport. Therefore, the use of this lightweight material has brought unprecedented convenience to all walks of life. We believe that we should do a good job in waste recycling. This is the way to maintain long-term sustainable development.

The GREENMAX Apolo series can recycle EPS foam and XPS foam at the same time. If you have two types of foam that need to be recycled at the same time, you can recycle both materials at the same time using just this foam compactor. GREENMAX Apolo series foam compactor completely adopts cold pressing technology, which is more in line with European standards for selecting recycling equipment. Especially in France, cold pressing technology basically monopolizes the foam compression market. Among all GREENMAX customers, there are many customers who are willing to try hot melt technology for recycling, but the vast majority of customers still prefer to use cold pressing technology. The compression ratio of this foam compactor can reach 50:1, which has good compression capabilities. The volume of compressed foam is significantly reduced, making it easier to transport and store.

“Currently, 33% of EPS foam packaging (household, industrial and commercial) is recycled in France. Industrial and commercial EPS packaging is already recycled up to 50% and we are convinced that there is a strong progression,” says Christian Théry, president of Elipso.

The players in the sector undertake to promote, support the implementation and achieve the objectives of the roadmap for the establishment of foam recycling sector in France.
